Are there other countries from which we could successfully recruit nurses?

Yes. There are a number of countries where hospitals are recruiting nurses including Canada, South Africa, India, Poland, Ukraine and England, to name a few. However, Canada and England are facing their own nurse shortage.

The primary criteria used to consider where to recruit nurses is their ability to speak English, the nurse training they receive, the ability of the nurses to adjust to our culture and environment, and the retention of the nurses once they arrive in the United States. We have selected the Philippines as having the population of nurses who best meets all of the above criteria.
